If you like horses you'll love this book!
Different And GreatI read this book when I got it for Christmas last year. Since then, I've read it over and over again. It is great to read something so different from the typical horse stories for teens. This book touches on a different type of horse, rider, and trainer, as well as an intense type of training that I think we could all benefit from. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about horses.

New Oxford Annotated Bible: An Ecumenical Study Bible Completely Revised and Enlarged/New Revised Standard Version
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (April, 1991)
Average review score:

The New Oxford Annotated BibleSince there are so many versions of the Bible today I asked my Pastor to suggest a 'good study' bible. She suggested the The New Oxford Annotated Bible. I have found it easy to read with excellent explanations included. I esspecially like that it is a version of many scholars working together to interpret every word in a manner that reflects the intention of the 'original text'. I think they did an excelent job. My only regret is that I did not purchase the edition with the apocrypha.
A SCHOLARLY BIBLE MADE FOR EVERYONEYou won't waste your money if you buy this bible. YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. This bible is an ecumenical work of different denomination scholars, well known theologians.

A Night in the Dinosaur Graveyard
Published in Hardcover by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (September, 1994)
Average review score:

My stepson's favoriteWhen picking out a book to read at night, this book seems to come up more often than any other. My six-year-old stepson and I have probably read this book over 150 times in the past 2 years, and he never gets tired of it. It's fun to read for me and he loves the holograms. I would definitely recommend this book for any child interested in dinosaurs.
Awarded Arielle's Seal of ApprovalArielle (5 years old) has owned this book for two days, has had it read to her umpteen times, memorized it, and had it read to all her friends--who stopped transfixed in a kid's pool to listen. I have run out of fingers, and subsequently lost count of just how many times umpteen is. Since you'll be reading it a lot, you'll be glad to know if you are a parent, that A Night in the Dinosaur Graveyard is an adult friendly book (Sesame Street vs. Nickolodean's Blues Clues if you get my drift.) If a book wins out over cool pool water in the Louisiana summer heat--you know you have a winner

Nine Man-Eaters & One Rogue
Published in Hardcover by John Culler & Sons (July, 1997)
Average review score:

A personal vision of the South Indian JungleReading Kenneth Anderson presents your mind's eye with a vision of an intensely dark tropical night: the fire cracking in front of you, the innumerable stars in the clear firmament, the soft, warm river-bed sand beneath, a slight chill in the still air, the sounds emenating from the dark jungle beyond and the soft, immortal voice of the scotsman as he reminiscened his adventures... Kenneth Anderson's stories are exceedingly pleasurable to read and everytime I read them, I felt I was indeed back in the deep dark silent tropical night of the South Indian wilds. Acquire. Read. Please. This Book is indeed an heirloom.
Most interesting and absorbing.Kenneth Anderson lived in South India and a being a hunter, he hunted man-eating tigers and other man-eating cats. He did not hunt for sport, but to rid-off these man-eating menaces that lived off people. In this book he re-collects his experiences while hunting man-eating cats, especially tigers. This book is very very interesting and is probably amongst one of my all time favourites. Many of his other books like Tiger Roars , etc deal with the same subject and are all equally interesting.. This books paints a very clear and interesting picture of the whole affair of his hunting of man-eaters. Since this book consists of short stories, each of these stories can be finished in one sitting. I thank Kenneth Anderson for giving me such wonderful moments while reading his books on quiet nights and week-ends, that I will cherish for a lifetime. I only wish these books were more easily available.

The Nutrition Bible: The Comprehensive, No-Nonsense Guide to Foods, Nutrients, Additives, Preservatives, Pollutants, and Everything Else We Eat and

More than A Bible of NutritionThis is more than just a bible of nutrition, it's a bible and a dictionary! Anything you have ever wanted to know about nutrition and ingredients and recipes, ANYTHING!
Excellent reference guideI confess I'm biased in my review. My mother, Barbara Deskins, is one of the authors. She and Jean Anderson did a wonderful job putting together a reference book for anything nutrition. Whenever anyone asks a question pertaining to foods or nutrition, I tell them to check the Nutrition Bible. Everybody should have a copy!

Once upon a companyI am one of the characters in this book. Joel, Kale, and Lane are my cousins and Wendy is my aunt. The story is depicted well and is very inspiring to others.Like in all other books by Wendy the illustrations are amazing. The company is doing extremely well and there are many more people that are helping out.Read this book and be inspired.
This is a masterfully illustrated story offering encouragement to all children with entrepreneurial interests.Wendy Anderson Halperin has elevated the picture book to a fine art form. This story is uplifting, practical, and encouraging, but the illustrations steal the show. Every one is a masterpiece. There is no better illustrator out there today than Wendy Anderson Halperin. Every detail is authentic and educational. I could look at this book for hours.

Passages from Antiquity to Feudalism
Published in Paperback by Verso Books (October, 1978)
Average review score:

MasterpieceSuperb work of Marxist historiography. Not a history, strictly speaking, but an essay on state forms in transition from the ancient slave societies of Greece and Rome to the fragmented monarchies of early medievalism. Stunning sweep, and a masterpiece of contemporary English prose which I believe will one day rank with Newman's Apologia Pro Vita Sua as a milestone in the evolution of literary English.
Rethinking ethnocentric historical materialismPerry Anderson is a leading editor of 'New Left Review' and well-known Marxist historian. This book is the first volume of a two part work. The second volume is 'Lineage of the Absolutist State' Those two volumes cover the whole history of pre-capitalist Western world from Greco-Roman antiquity to Absolutist monarchies. It's incredible how one research could cover that range of time. Moreover, he maintains his distinctive perspective throughout two volumes. His problem is the same one as Marx and Weber posed: the formation of capitalism. But Anderson's problem is somewhat narrower: why did the capitalism emerge in Europe rather than in more advanced China, India or Islamic world at that time? To answer the question, he traces back to Greco-Roman antiquity. His answer in the first volume is this: it's because the West was formulated through combining antiquity and feudalism. It doesn't seem distinctive at all. But he questioned in the line of Marxist tradition and his answer could have meaning only in that line. his terminology is different from traditional Marxist one. He recasts the conventional definition of antiquity and feudalism: he contends that the antiquity and the Western feudalism had idiosyncratic modes of production. For example, the slavery itself, which was the dominant mode of production in antiquity, could be common in that time. But outside Greco-Roman world, the slavery was not dominant mode of production. Moreover, the Western feudalism was formed through fusing totally different modes of production: a synthesis of Greco-Roman society and German society. So features of Western feudalism are restricted to its own context, not catholic ones. If we treat it as universal, Anderson argues, we can't explain why the capitalism merged only in the West. To prove his proposition, Anderson compares the different paths Western Europe and Eastern Europe followed. Furthermore, he redefines the relationship between superstructure and infrastructure. As Braudel maintained with his jargon, longue duree, Anderson asserts that components of superstructure, such as the state, religion, value, law, convention, also affect the mode of production.
